Children’s Services
The children’s library offers access to resources for patrons ages birth to 13, along with parenting and other childcare materials. This is a great area to read, explore, create, and play together!
Sections include:
- Books For the Very Young, which explore early concepts such as the alphabet, numbers, animals, and time. This area also features sturdy board books which withstand most toddler wear and tear.
- Level Readers, which support guided reading objectives. These area features Level 1 readers (ideal for preschool to 1st Grade) and Level 2 readers (ideal for 1st to 3rd Grade). For higher levels, please refer to the Juvenile Fiction section.
- Bibliotherapy, which provides age-appropriate materials on subjects such as grieving, divorce, new siblings, potty training, and emotional coping skills.
- Easy Fiction, a variety of picture books that will appeal to children of all ages and are ideal for storytimes and independent reading. This collection features Caldecott Medal Winners, classics, and new favorites.
- Juvenile Fiction, ideal for independent readers ages 8 to 12. To make browsing easier, you’ll find separate areas for favorite series, mysteries, science-fiction, and fiction featuring horses. We feature classics, award-winners, and popular titles.
- Juvenile Non-Fiction, including biographies. Age-appropriate works to assist with homework, research, and casual learning.
- Audio Books, VHS Tapes, and DVDs
- Reference, including Homeschooling Resources
The children’s library also provides free public internet access (including wireless) for patrons 13 and under, use of our Wii game system, board games, and learning tools such as the Hooked on Phonics system. Regular programming includes after-school tutoring, Chess Club, Wednesday Toddler Time, Tween Book Club, and Saturday Family Game Time. We would also be happy to provide tours and specialized programming to fit the needs of your community group.
