Literacy Services

The Presque Isle Family Literacy Project (PIFLP) works with families with at least one child between the ages of 0-4. Families will work together to increase their reading, writing, and math skills in order to reach their personal and professional goals.

Families will participate in the following areas:

I. Adult Literacy
Parents will work to improve their literacy skills and/or work toward their GED with MSAD #1 Adult Education and the Literacy Volunteers of Aroostook County.

II. Early Childhood Literacy
Children will improve early reading skills and prepare to enter school by taking part in Early Headstart or Headstart programs through the Aroostook County Action Program (ACAP).

III. Parenting Education

Through home visits provided by the Aroostook Council of Healthy Families, parents will gain skills that will help support their child’s literacy development

IV. Parent/Child Activities

Parent/Child Activities (also known as intergenerational activities) provide opportunities for families to play, learn, and grow together. Monthly activities, along with weekly story times, are offered by the Mark & Emily Turner Memorial Library. Families will receive books to build their home library while attending this program.

This program is FREE for all eligible families. For more information, please contact Project Manager Dianna Leighton or Project Coordinator at (207) 764-2571 or by visiting the library.
