Friends of the Library

Who are the Friends of the Library?

Our name tells it all, because anyone who supports the Presque Isle Community Library may become a “Friend of the Library.”

Presently, over 200 families have memberships in the Friends of the Library, and new Friends are invited to join at any time.  Library card holders receive an invitation to become a Friend in their mail boxes each December, and membership forms are also available in the library all through the year.

What do we do?

Like all organizations, we have bylaws.  Our bylaws state that:

The purpose shall be to maintain an association of individuals interested in libraries; to focus public attention on the library; to receive and encourage gifts, endowments, and bequests to the library; to stimulate the use of the library’s resources and services; to support and cooperate with the library in developing services and facilities for the community.

Thus, our activities are varied, depending on the needs of the library and the creativity of the Friends.  We raise money through our membership drive, donations, and a variety of fundraising projects.

You may have enjoyed using some of the library materials which the Friends of the Library have helped purchase:  fiction books and large-print books, audio books, and children’s books.

We communicate with Library Director Christal Schermeister-Simons and with the library’s Board of Trustees to make sure our projects fit into the greater goals of the library and its programs.

When do we meet?

Regular meetings are held on the first Tuesday of the month at 1:00 pm at the library. We meet in February, May, June, August, September, October and November. We are always delighted to have new members join us.
Please ask Christal at the library (715-686-7613) about meeting information.

Other community members join us for our regular monthly meetings, and many folks who are away from Presque Isle for part of the year participate seasonally, as well as supporting us with their memberships.
