Presque Isle Railroad History

Presented by the Presque Isle Heritage Society

Wednesday, September 17 at 3pm in the Library Lower Level. Includes 45-min slide presentation followed by an optional short walking tour.

Join us to learn about the early history of the railroad that ran to Presque Isle in the early 1900s!

We’ll talk about the railroad during the logging era in the early 1900s, then head over to Sensenbrenner Park for a short walking tour to a point back in the woods where a railroad turntable allowed the locomotive to reverse direction for its return to the mainline track in Mercer. The daily train schedule included passenger and freight cars hauling passengers, supplies, and huge quantities of milled lumber bound for commercial markets.
