March Art in the Library – Rose King

Our featured artist for the month of March is local woodburner/watercolorist Rose King.

Rose’s artist statement:

“To my dear friends and fans of wood burning: Here goes the story of my golden years and where I am now.

It all starts with an idea and a cool piece of dry, clean, sanded wood. I sketch my ideas in pencil, erase a lot, move stuff around until I’m satisfied with how it all looks, sometimes adding and taking away until it all fits.

Then I start to burn. I’m currently using a Razertip wood burning tool with lots of different tips. Next I add watercolor, and keep blending until it looks natural. Finally comes 2 or 3 coats of water-based Minwax Satin Finish, and it’s ready to find a new home!

I have always loved to draw wildflowers, birds, bees, dragonflies, butterflies, nature, and trees with lots of color! I am happy and very content with doing what I love to do. I can’t seem to retire because I love it so much – it’s better than therapy and costs less!

Thank you to all of you that have supported me through the years. I hope you enjoy the show!”

Rose has generously offered to donate all proceeds from the sale of her work to the Friends of the Presque Isle Library – thank you, Rose!
